Common Myths about Hospice
Fiction - Hospice is all about dying.
Fact - Hospice is a lot of things, but hospice isn’t all about dying, a place to go to die or always depressing. Hospice is about the journey, a place of sharing, an opportunity to help those in need and a safe environment for patients and families - not to mention the industry leading, specialized care received by patients.
Fiction - Hospice is only a 6 month benefit.
Fact - If you qualify for hospice care, you can receive unlimited hospice benefits. Your initial hospice certification is valid for 90 days. After the initial 90 day period, you must continue to meet disease specific criteria in order to continue receiving hospice care. You can receive hospice care for as long as you continue to qualify for service.
Fiction - You must be home or facility bound.
Fact - You do not have to be home bound. Nightingale Hospice strongly believes in quality of life, therefore, we encourage and work with you to experience life to the best of your ability.
Fiction - All medication except pain medications must be discontinued.
Fact - We work with your doctor and insurance company to help meet all of your medication needs.
